PlainAttorney is published under its own name and owned by Kiznis Studio. By using the site you accept these terms; they take nothing away from rights the law where you live gives you.

What the site is, and is not
PlainAttorney republishes the New York attorney register as the court system releases it, with explanations and counts computed from it. It is not the New York State Unified Court System and is not affiliated with it. It does not rate or recommend lawyers, cannot certify anyone’s standing, and gives no legal advice. A register file is a snapshot: check a status that matters with the court system before you rely on it.
Reusing what we publish
The register itself is the court system’s open data, published on data.ny.gov under that portal’s terms. The tables PlainAttorney compiles from it (the research tables and their CSV files, the counts on our pages) are licensed under Creative Commons Attribution 4.0: reuse them freely, with a credit to PlainAttorney and a link to the page. The site’s design, code and prose are not part of that licence.
Search engines and answer engines are welcome. Copying attorney records in bulk, by any means, is not: the records are published so people can check a lawyer, and each one carries its person’s rights. The compiled tables are free to reuse: the CSV files are the easiest way to take one. Any other automated access must identify its client, keep to a modest request rate and never bypass the site’s security.
Advertising and links
Advertising pays for the site; ads are served by Journey by Mediavine and are not endorsements. Links to other sites, including the court system’s, lead to pages we do not control.
Liability
The site is provided as is. As far as the law permits, Kiznis Studio bears no liability for a decision taken on a page’s word without checking the court system’s own record. Nothing here limits a liability the law does not allow to be limited.
